Niles Farmer To Receive Monsanto Award At Cass County Fair

Sarah Peterson of Niles will collect a five-thousand dollar prize from agricultural giant Monsanto this week. Peterson was named as the Northeast U.S. region winner of Monsanto's 2012 America's Farmers Mom of the Year, but missed out on the national win. She told WSJM in May when she was named the regional winner that the money would be a welcomed addition to the family and farm budget.

Listen:

Peterson didn't even know about the contest until a Monsanto representative called with the news this spring that she had won. Neighbor Ann Coles sent in an essay nominating her for the honor. Peterson's family is one of four that run MK Peterson Farm in Niles. She will be given the check from Monsanto Tuesday afternoon at the Cass County Fair in Cassopolis.
