Gay rights activists across Michigan will be staging a hunger strike starting next week to protest what they describe as a lack of progress on equality issues. The strike will take place at eight gay, lesbian, and transgender community centers starting on July 30th at Affirmations in Ferndale. Among those to take part will be Santiago Lopez, of the OutCenter in Benton Harbor. He tells us that Michigan is behind when it comes to supporting LGBT rights:
Lopez will take part in the hunger strike on August first. The strikes will be held in 12 hour shifts, running in 24 hour blocks, all the way through the November election. Lopez tells us that efforts will be made in Benton Harbor to raise awareness about the issues being discussed during that 100 day timeframe.
