State Senate Approves Sex Abuse Awareness Legislation

The State Senate on Wednesday unanimously approved Erin's Law, legislation sponsored by John Proos that's designed to help prevent child sexual abuse. The law would allow for the creation of a panel that would establish a curriculum for educators and students around Michigan on how to spot signs of sex abuse. Proos says that this one-time body will set up a voluntary program that would fit the needs of each school:

Erin's Law is named for Erin Merryn, a 27 year old Illinois woman who's been campaigning to get schools around the country to do more to prevent child sex abuse. Similar laws have been enacted in Maine, Indiana and Missouri.
