Today is the only day this month state lawmakers are in session, and Governor Snyder is calling on them to pass some significant legislation. He wants the bills regarding the Michigan Public School Employee Retirement System passed today by the Senate and rectified with the House version. State Senator John Proos says changes have to be made to the current system.
Proos believes the Senate bill better addresses the long-term problem of funding the retirement and health care coverage of retired teachers. He says right now, 24-cents of every dollar spent on education goes for that, and it will rise to over 30-cents within five years if nothing is done to create a different system.
