The Humane Society of Southwest Michigan is putting out an urgent call for help in feeding the dogs at the shelter. Alissa Saul says they currently have about 60 dogs waiting to be adopted and they're running very low on food.
Saul says it normally takes about two days to go through a bag of food, and staff members just bought two large bags this week to keep the animals fed. She says they're not picky and will accept any brand of food, and any size bag. The Humane Society will also accept cash donations, as Saul understands the price of a large bag of dog food may be out of reach for someone who can only donate a few dollars to help out. They're located at 641 South Crystal Avenue in Benton Harbor, and they're open noon to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
