Verizon Wireless Rolling Out New Shared Data Plans

Forget counting your wireless minutes if you're a Verizon Wireless customer under a new plan they're rolling out this week. Spokeswoman Michelle Gilbert says they're responding to consumer demand to be able to share data for multiple devices like smartphones and tablet computers.

Listen:

That means the minutes, text messages and video messages are unlimited with a plan for $40 a month for a smartphone, ten-dollars a month for a tablet and $30 a month for a basic phone. Data rates start at $50 a month for 1 gigabyte and go up to $100 for 10 gigabites. Gilbert says most customers will use between one and two gigabites of data per month. She says for many customers, the monthly bill will go down as a result of the changes. Another change is customers will no longer be charged to use their smartphone as a mobile Internet hotspot, eliminating a $20 charge.
