A Van Buren County judge has asked the Michigan Attorney General to review a lawsuit filed by the Hartford City Commission over a ballot proposal passed by voters last year. This week, there was supposed to be hearing in Van Buren Circuit Court on that suit, but the judge postponed it until the 16th in order to give the AG more time to offer his thoughts. The city commission is suing to have last November's narrowly-approved ballot proposal declared illegal. It changed the city charter to state that no new ordinances, or changes to any ordinance, may be approved without a vote of the people. The city commissioners who favored the suit are now the subject of a recall attempt by the resident who organized the ballot initiative, according to The Herald Palladium,.
