Family Dog Saves Infant From Drowning

A 14 month old Cass County boy was saved from drowning over the weekend...by a dog. The sheriffs department says that, on Sunday, a Marcellus woman was with her son on their Maple Street property when she went to get something from the garage. She thought the boy was right behind her, but as can happen with kids that age, she looked away for a few seconds and he was gone. The woman went into the yard, and found her son in a swimming pool unconscious, but propped up by a black Labrador. Sheriffs Department Captain Lyndon Parrish says that the child had apparently gone under and stopped breathing, but at some point, the dog went in after him and held him above water until Mom came by. She couldn't get a cell phone signal for 911, and started driving with the boy to the fire station when he came to:

The dog is OK, as well. Parish says that the boy's mother is convinced that the dog saved his life.
