Ruth Nichols To Be Exhumed Next Week

The grave of Ruth Nichols at the Crystal Springs Cemetery will be exhumed next Friday. The cemetery board approved the move this week as her family believes the cemetery lost her body along with the money they paid for her burial in November. A request several months ago by the family to have her exhumed was denied by former cemetery board chairman Darwin Watson, who resigned from that post last week due to the missing $1,600 they paid to have her buried. The cemetery board waived the $2,400 fee normally charged to exhume a body as they are trying to make amends with Nichols' family. The money they paid in cash for her burial has not been found, and Michigan State Police have been asked to investigate.
