Watervliet Reaches Settlement With Fired Clerk

The former clerk for the city of Watervliet will receive a five thousand dollar settlement after claiming that she was treated unfairly by her bosses before being fired back in 2008. Sue Openneer alleged that she had been subjected to gender and age discrimination by former City Manager Michael Hart, Mayor David Brinker, and some city commissioners. She sued in Berrien County Trial Court for 600 thousand dollars, but took the five thousand dollar settlement recently, according to The Herald Palladium. The city commission approved the deal on June fifth.
