BH Commissioner Takes Issue With Whirlpool Donation Announcement



Benton Harbor City Commissioner Duane Seats disagrees with the way that Mayor James Hightower arranged for the community's 200 thousand dollar Whirlpool donation to be spent on fixing the rec center pool. He tells us that he believes the deal worked out between Hightower and Benton Harbor Schools Superintendent Leonard Seawood was inappropriate, because they're brothers in law. Seats also takes issue with how the mayor, emergency manager, and Whirlpool were able to settle on releasing the money, considering that the plan before had been to get consent from the mayor pro tem, as well:

Seats says that he expects legal action to be taken over the arrangement. He added that he's heard from dozens of residents already who oppose Thursday's pool announcement.
