Corn Farmers Not Worried About Dryness Yet

Sixty-five percent of the topsoil on Michigan farms is either very short or short when it comes to soil moisture. It's not bad enough yet to get corn and soybean farmers really worried, but Michigan Corn Growers Association Vice President Scott Lonier tells WSJM they're watching it really closely.

Listen:

Lonier farms in Lansing and says around mid-Michigan they got some unexpected rain earlier this week that will help out. However, in southwest Michigan and Berrien County in particular, those storms missed us. Despite the dryness, Michigan's corn crop is in good shape with 64-percent rated in either good or excellent condition. Wheat and soybeans are a little lower, with both at 59-percent in good to excellent condition.
