The Galien School Board this week approved a plan to start relocating some of the district's students to other schools. The board recently voted to shut down all operations this summer, as the tiny district struggled with declining enrollment and a shortage of funds. The plan is to send its students off to Buchanan and River Valley Schools. So far, a deal's been signed with Buchanan to take the Galien kindergarten kids, and River Valley will take the high schoolers. Berrien RESA Superintendent Kevin Ivers has been appointed to serve as the acting Galien superintendent as the district winds everything down, since its current leader, Tim Allard, is leaving this week for a new position in Battle Creek.
