Health Officials Say Cool It With Heat Wave



This week is the hottest of the year so far, and with that comes the threat of heat-related illnesses and problems. Michigan Department of Community Health spokeswoman Angela Minicuci tells WSJM they're telling people to stay inside in cool air whenever possible.

Minicuci says the first stage of a heat-related illness is dehydration, followed by heat exhaustion and then heat stroke, which can be fatal. She says if you get to the point where you're vomiting and cannot cool down, call 911 and get to the hospital. But to avoid that, drink plenty of water, get into the shade if you have to be outside, and take frequent breaks.
