The St. Joseph City Commission has sent a draft report on how the city should deal with coastline development to the planning commission. Mike Morphey of Edgewater Resources presented the draft coastal study, saying there is one house currently along Ridgeway on the north side of the St. Joseph River that wouldn't be allowed to be built under their proposal.
That home in question is the house whose owners requested permission to build a seawall earlier this year, and withdrew the request after a firestorm of controversy erupted. Morphey added there are some extra precautions in their recommendations.
The report also looked at the segment of shoreline that encompasses Silver Beach and the rest of the shoreline to the south down to the city limits. Morphey said they are not recommending anything different for those segments than what is already in place.
