Man Arrested After High Speed Chase

An Illinois man was arrested in Berrien County this week after leading police on a high speed chase. The Van Buren County Sheriffs Department says that dispatch got several calls on Thursday about a mini van headed east on I 94 driving recklessly shortly before one PM. A deputy spotted that vehicle not long after, near the Hartford exit...but when he tried to pull it over, the van kept going. It crossed over into Berrien County, where more police were waiting from several departments. According to officers, the mini van was riding close on the bumpers of other cars on the highway, and following them when their drivers tried to get out of the way. Eventually, the driver of the van had to stop when he found himself blocked by a semi and several police units near Highland Avenue. Officers had to bust him out of his vehicle, and he was taken to Lakeland Hospital's psych ward, as it was determined he was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The report will be forwarded to the Van Buren County Prosecutors Office for review. Police aren't yet releasing the name of the 27 year old man.
