President Obama today called for shifting money away from colleges and universities who don't rein in soaring tuition and other student costs. He outlined his proposals in Ann Arbor during a speech at the University of Michigan, saying college can't be just for the privileged. Lake Michigan College President Bob Harrison said in order for community colleges and universities to get students and returning adults prepared for the jobs that are out there, they need more money.
Obama's proposal would offer financial incentives to colleges and universities based on graduation rates. In his State of the Union address this week, the President put higher education on notice by saing quote, "if you can't stop tuition from going up, the funding you get from taxpayers will go down."
