Michigan State Police say a man wanted out of Kalamazoo County on a warrant for failing to appear in court has been killed in a shootout with a police officer in Lawton. State Police Inspector Tracey McAndrew said 34-year-old Michael Lyle Adams of Galesburg opened fire on the officer when he was pulled over for defective equipment on the car around 3 a.m. today. The suspect was the only one shot and McAndrew said the officer was not hurt.
Three women, a 38-year-old and her 22-year-old and 17-year-old daughters, were in the car with Adams and were not hurt. The name of the officer has not been released. McAndrew said they are still trying to determine what the relationship is between the suspect and the three women who were in the car.
