A recommendation from the National Transportation Safety Board this week that talking and texting on cell phones while behind the wheel be banned has certainly raised a lot of eyebrows, and we checked in with a couple of drivers education teachers to see what they think. Bruce Schadler, Director of Drivers Education over at Bridgman Schools, tells us that so much as talking on the phone while driving is a dangerous distraction. It's a message he tried to send to all of his students:
Schadler supports an outright ban on both texting and talking while behind the wheel:
Other drivers ed instructors we found agreed that there ought to be a ban. Bob Kasun, owner of Maverick Driving Academy, told us that he shows his students examples of crashes caused by cell phones, and notes that the texting problem has gotten even worse ever since people resorted to typing with the phone in their laps to avoid being spotted by police.
