A Friday afternoon car collision has taken the life of an Andrews University dean. 41 year old Esperanza Alvarez-Muniz was an assistant dean of women for Lamson Hall. On Friday afternoon, she was driving with her mom from picking grapes. Police say she failed to yield at the intersection of Dean's Hill Road and M-140 in Berrien Center. Her car was hit on the drivers side by a van. Alvarez-Muniz's husband Paul learned of the news out of town - he was in Maryland. Andrews University said students sent dozens of messages of comfort to Paul. Alvarez- Muniz graduated with a Master of Divinity from Andrews in 2007. Jennifer Burrill, Dean of Women at Lamson Hall, described Alvarez-Muniz as a “genuine, compassionate, strong and courageous woman.”
