Whirlpool PRIDE Raises Over $40,000 For OutCenter With Weekend Fundraiser

The OutCenter is set to receive over $40,000 from a weekend fundraiser in Chicago. Whirlpool PRIDE raised more than 20-grand at an event at the World of Whirlpool, and the money was matched with another $20,000. OutCenter board chairman Brian Savage says the money raised quadrupled last year's PRIDE event.

Chris Rice heads up Whirlpool PRIDE at the world's largest appliance maker and also lives near the OutCenter in the Arts District.

Whirlpool has been recognized as a leader for gay rights in the workplace internationally and is among the companies in Michigan pushing to expand the state's Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include anti-discrimination laws for LGBT people.
