Whirlpool First To Have Dryer Receive Energy Star Certification

If being good to the environment is important to you when buying appliances, there is for the first time a clothes dryer carrying the Energy Star certification from the EPA. It's one of Whirlpool's Duet clothes dryers, and has just become the first clothes dryer to receive that certification.

Listen:

That's Whirlpool's senior manager of government relations Nick Gillespie. The dryer is starting to ship to retailers and is expected to be widely available by the middle to end of next month. According to Whirlpool's website, the dryer carries a suggested retail price of $1,200. The dryer has sensors that prevent over-drying, which can damage fabrics and wastes energy. It also has an Ecoboost setting to adjust the heat output based on the exact moisture content of the clothes that are put in.

The model to receive the Energy Star certification is the Whirlpool Duet WED87HED steam dryer.
