Whirlpool Announces Expansion To Nearly Double Size Of An Ohio Manufacturing Plant

With strong demand in small appliances, Whirlpool Corporation is investing $40-million and adding 400-jobs to a plant in Ohio. The expansion will nearly double the size of the Greenville plant. The 400 new employees will be working on-site by 2018, bringing the total workforce to about 1,400. The plant makes KitchenAid brand mixers, blenders and other kitchen appliances and attachments. With the increasing market demand for premium products, the company is confident growth of this nature will continue. The KitchenAid brand celebrates its 95th anniversary this year. Of the products Whirlpool makes, 80% sold in the U.S. are made in the U.S. and the company is committed to investing $1 billion in its U.S. footprint between 2010 and 2014. The Benton Harbor based company is coming off a strong year. Sales rose 4% to nearly $19-billion last year.
