The Van Buren District Library is working to digitize 110 years of history. Local History Librarian Toni Benson says they are scanning copies of "The Bangor Advance" from 1875 to 1985 so the microfilm can be retired.
Benson says they are using actual newspapers for the digitizing and not the microfilm. She says they are still missing large chunks of issues, but not from the 1800s. The ones they're in need of are from the late 1950s into the 1980s. "The Bangor Advance" was a weekly newspaper that also went by other names during its history. Benson says making it digital will also allow people to print out articles from its history. She adds this is the first of several Van Buren County newspapers which may also be making the switch from microfilm to computer.
