Once again, several Van Buren County Commissioners are questioning what they feel are liberties being taken by Sheriff Dale Gribler. At least two commissioners feel the sheriff is using his county-provided SUV inappropriately. Gribler took several Lawrence High School baseball players to a conditioning camp in Georgia using the vehicle, which he believes to not be a problem. He says he's used the vehicle for personal and professional use for years and says it comes down to a disagreement between himself and a few commissioners. Those officials believe county policy bans anyone who isn't a county official from being in the vehicle and doesn't allow for personal use of the SUV. Gribler is the Lawrence High School baseball coach in addition to being the county sheriff. He was cleared in February of allegations that he misused a county-issued credit card.
