Van Buren County Sheriff Dale Gribler is being stripped of the right to use a county vehicle for anything other than police work. The county board voted unanimously to ban him from using the SUV for personal use and will now require it to stay parked at the sheriff's department when the sheriff is off-duty. The move was made after Gribler used the vehicle to take players from the Lawrence High School baseball team to a conditioning camp in Georgia this spring. The sheriff contends he has been allowed to use the SUV for personal use for years without issue, and the new restriction is due to problems he has with a few commissioners. The board, however, says all county vehicles are subject to the same rules and everyone needs to adhere to them.
