Van Buren And Cass County Election Results




Van Buren County:


South Haven will have a new mayor, following Tuesday's election. Voters picked challenger Robert Burr over incumbant Dorothy Appleyard, by a margin of 799 to 481. Elected Ward One City Council member was Gail Patterson...and to Ward Three was Andy Klavins. The rest of the city council races were uncontested.

As far as South Haven Schools -- Corey Davis and Bryan Lewis were elected to the board of education.

Meanwhile, voters in Hartford elected Theodore Johnson mayor on Tuesday.
He beat opponent Cody Scott 129 to 66. Elected to the city commission were Rick Hall, Leo Latus, and John Pleyer, edging out Natalie Rios.

Looking at Van Buren County ballot questions...

Voters in Hartford Township approved a fire equipment millage renewal, as did city residents. Hartford city voters also narrowly approved a recreation council proposal, 106 to 91. A school bonding proposal in Decatur passed by a large margin...and the school operating millage in South Haven was also approved.

Cass County:


Voters in Dowagiac relected Mayor Donald Lyons to a new four-year term on Tuesday. He beat challenger Scott Wreggitt, 285 to 156. Several other positions were on the ballot in Dowagiac, but the candidates ran unopposed.

Also, Cass County voters approved a five-year 911 millage. It's a 0.2-mill levy that starts in December, intended to support emergency dispatch services in light of state cuts.
