Upton's Energy And Commerce Committee Investigating GM Recall

A U.S. House committee is launching a probe of an expanded General Motors recall. Congressman Fred Upton chairs the House Energy and Commerce Committe, and they're preparing for hearings soon and have asked the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and GM for documentation on the recall.

Listen:

Lawmakers want to know if GM officials and federal regulators failed to detect an ignition switch problem that caused at least 13 deaths over several years. Documents submitted to the NHTSA show some GM engineers knew about the problem ten years ago, but didn't treat it as a serious safety concern.

Listen:

GM only issued its recall last month for Chevy Cobalts and Pontiac G5s. The recall now covers six GM models and nearly1.6 million vehicles. Upton made his comments on Michigan's Big Show with Michael Patrick Shiels.
