Congress is looking into finding ways to get money to victims of Hurricane Sandy to help the East Coast rebuild. Congressman Fred Upton says the House could take action today after being chided by Republicans like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Congressman Peter King of New York for not doing anything.
Upton says he voted "to make whole" the account for federal flood insurance before the end of the last session, adding that money should always be available.
The storm devastated the East Coast at the end of October, and damage in the U.S. is estimated at more than $63 billion. The effects of the storm were felt in 24 states, including Michigan. The Senate passed legislation to give $60 billion in aid in late December to victims, but the House put it off until this month. They are expected to vote sometime today on the $51 billion aid package.
