USDA Files Complaint Against Deer Forest

The USDA is taking action against Deer Forest in Coloma. The agency's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, or APHIS, has filed a complaint with a federal judge alleging the park has violated the Animal Welfare Act on numerous occasions, and the complaint dates back three years. The most recent violation was noted last July just after new management took over the facility and changed the name to Deer Forest Exotic Animal Sanctuary. The complaint filed by APHIS does not name any individuals, only "Deer Forest." Another investigation is also underway by the USDA into Deer Forest, and pressure has been put on Coloma Township officials to make moves to shut it down.
