A local credit union is receiving top honors from the Michigan Credit Union League. United Federal Credit Union has been named Outstanding Credit Union of the Year, the award recognizes an individual credit union for its outstanding achievements in a number of financial strengths and performances. Sandie Lieberg with UFCU says they were trailblazers for other financial institutions when they made a historic purchase of the assets of Griffith Savings Bank in Griffith, Indiana.
In addition to the recognition from the MCUL, UFCU will receive $2,500 to donate to a Michigan based charity of its choice, or a $2,500 scholarship for a Michigan college or university to be donated to the recipient of UFCU's choice. Lieberg says they haven't decided on which to choose yet.
