Two Berrien County farms are now part of the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program. Also known as MEAEP, the program helps farmers comply with state and federal environmental regulations and Right to Farm practices. Twixwood Nursery and Vic Rogers Farm, both in Benton Harbor, have received the verification from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Since MEAEP began, 2,000 farms have been verified and roughly 10,000 have applied. Farmers need to attend an educational seminar, have an on-farm risk assessment done and develop and implement an action plan regarding potential environmental risks.
