Allegedly stealing $1,000 worth of metal is the cause for larceny arrests in Berrien County. The Berrien County Sheriff's Department said today that late last week at the American Electric Power Company in Buchanan, Deputy Kelly Laesch saw what looked like a crime in progress. As Laesch began to investigate, the suspects sped off in a vehicle. Michigan State Police and Niles Township police were called in to help, and a officers recovered the stolen metal during a traffic stop in Bertrand Township. Cheri Burkhard of Buchanan and Raymond Kogut of Mishawaka, Indiana were arrested and lodged at the Berrien County Jail on larceny charges pending their arraignments. An arrest warrant is being sought against a 33-year old male from Indiana who was also apart of the theft. Berrien County Sheriff Department's Detective Bureau also assisted in the investigation.
