Surfing Silver Beach

Cameron Mammina took Tuesday off of work to do something rare. He hopped on a sufboard along with Dirk Sorrells and rode the waves churned up by Hurricane Sandy in Lake Michigan in St. Joseph. The "Kalamazoo Gazette" quotes Mammina as saying the winds were "exhausting" as he rode the 20-foot high waves by the south pier. He says he will give it another go Wednesday, as the National Weather Service predicts waves will only be about ten-feet high. You can see in the photo, which was posted to our Facebook wall, a massive wave over the north side of the pier. The water temperature was around 50 degrees.
