A St. Joseph woman who lost her son to leukemia two years ago is working to "Pay It Forward." Mindy Flowers-Daisy walked over the past week from St. Joseph to Ann Arbor to raise money and awareness of the cancer, seeking to use the money raised to help others in Berrien County who are in the same situation. She tells WSJM News that typically if a Berrien County patient is diagnosed with leukemia or lymphoma, treatment is either at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Detroit Children's Hospital or the University of Chicago Hospital.
She said she raised enough money from the walk to get started with a non-profit organization called "Pennies from Heaven." Information on donating to the cause is available online at penniesfromheaven5.org. Flowers-Daisy walked 20 to 30 miles a day on her journey to the University of Michigan's Comprehensive Cancer Center in Ann Arbor.
