St. Joseph Purchasing Two New Police SUVs

A pair of brand-new 2015 Ford Explorers will soon be patrolling the streets of St. Joseph. Public Safety Director Mark Clapp says the SUVs will soon be added to the fleet of police cars and will replace a pair of 2012 model Explorers, with one being repurposed to the city engineer and the other will serve as the fifth squad car. Clapp says they will trade in a pair of surplus vehicles.

The trade-ins will knock the purchase price of the new SUVs down to a combined total of just over $36,000. The vehicles will be purchased from Siemans Ford in Bridgman, and Clapp notes the city has the money available in its Motor Pool Fund. The city commission voted unanimously last night to make the purchase.
