Next week the City of St. Joseph will be without a public safety director. Starting Monday Mark Clapp will be on unpaid leave for one-week. His suspension comes after an investigation for alleged misconduct in January. That investigation found the complaint to be without merit. The City did learn though of comments he made about former Deputy Director Al DiBrito, who was fired Tuesday. Those comments violated City policy, thus leading to the suspension. Next week Deputy Director Jim Crow will be in charge of fire operations while Sgt. Steve Neubecker heads law enforcement. A statement released by the city says the Berrien County law enforcement and fire communities work well together and share resources. If the need exists, they can always count on each other to assist.
