In a move to boost the tourism industry, the South Haven City Council is approving the use and sales of alcohol on city property. During Monday night's meeting the council took three actions: change the city ordinance to allow alcohol sales and use, vote to approve one-time permits and vote to approve a map showing where the permits could be used. All this will allow businesses with liquor licenses to serve alcohol in sidewalk seating areas. It further allows for temporary alcohol sales to persons with a one-time permit, the permits can be obtained for certain city festivals. City Manager Brian Dissette tells the "Herald-Palladium" the council has the right to reject any permit application. The map of eligible areas for permits includes much of downtown and the parking lot at the city's South Beach.
