Some Drivers Struggle With New BH Roundabouts



Representatives from the Michigan Department of Transportation were in Benton Harbor on Tuesday to talk about the new roundabouts that have been constructed along the I-94 Business Loop downtown. MDO's Nick Schirripa tells us that it seems as though some area motorists have been experiencing a little trouble figuring the things out. First of all, he says that when you approach a roundabout, don't be afraid:

Schirripa says the main point of the roundabout is that it allows traffic to move more smoothly in a safe manner. Treat it accordingly:

You must yield to traffic already in the roundabout, but you don't need to stop before entering if there is no traffic there. Then, turn right into the roundabout and do not stop. Remember that roundabouts are designed to keep traffic constantly moving, so if you're making a right turn, immediately turn on your signal and exit the roundabout. And if you miss that turn...

Schirripa says that the roundabouts in Benton Harbor are actually much simpler than in most other places.
