Silver Beach Pizza Expansion Approved

Silver Beach Pizza will be getting larger. The St. Joseph City Commission voted 5-0 to approve Option "A" Monday night, allowing for a 14-foot clearance under the second level for fire trucks and delivery vehicles but with a lower roofline than what was first proposed on June 9. Owner Tony Bertig believes that with input from the city, the best possible option was found.

The addition is not expected to have wheelchair access in the immediate future, but Bertig says that's something that may be addressed later. Their architect removed the tower with a staircase and replaced it with an open-air, emergency staircase. City Commissioner Mary Goff was one of two commissioners who went from being opposed to the expansion to backing a revised design Monday night.

Commissioner Jeff Richards also went from opposed to in favor.

Construction is expected to start after the tourism season ends. Bertig hinted that the deck level might become an area during the summer for locals with reservations. The expansion will add 70 seats to Silver Beach Pizza.
