Semi Crash Slows I 94 Traffic

The Van Buren County Sheriffs Department says that two semi trucks crashed into each other on Friday. It happened on I 94 near County Road 653 in Antwerp Township around eleven AM. Deputies responded to the scene to find that the semi driven by a 50 year old Paul Erickson, of Grand Rapids, had hit another semi driven by 35 year old Jose Mendoza, of Illinois, while they were both westbound on 94. Seems that Erickson fell asleep at the wheel, and hit Mendoza from the rear. Erickson suffered serious injuries and was taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, while Mendoza sought his own treatment for minor pains. The accident shut down a land of I94 for about two hours. Erickson was cited for careless driving.
