Saint Joseph Dollar General To Close

The Dollar General store in Saint Joseph will soon be closed for good. This week, the store hung a sign on the side of the building on Niles Avenue across from the John and Dede Howard Ice Arena, reading “Store Closing.” Employees say the reason for the closure is that the property owner has increased lease rates too much. All of the store’s workers have been offered a chance to take jobs at other Dollar Generals around southwest Michigan, and there are plenty. Among others, there are Dollar Generals in Berrien Springs, Stevensville, Bridgman, Coloma, New Buffalo, Buchanan, Hartford, Lawton, and Paw Paw. A liquidation sale is now underway at the Saint Joseph store. Everything should be all shut down at the end of June.
