Recall Launched Against Berrien County Clerk Sharon Tyler

Paperwork has been filed in Lansing with the Secretary of State's office to recall Berrien County Clerk Sharon Tyler. Activist Edward Pinkney of Benton Township, who is awaiting trial on felony election fraud charges from the recall of Benton Harbor Mayor James Hightower, is behind the effort to remove Tyler from the post. He wants her out for filing the motion that temporarily halted the Benton Harbor mayoral recall election over petition signature issues and for appealing the ruling of Judge John Dewane to put the recall on the November ballot. Pinkney is alleged to have altered several petitions in the effort to recall Hightower. He has previously been convicted of voter fraud in 2007 for offering cash to sway voters in a 2005 recall election, and also served time for a similar conviction in 1999.
