Readers World to Close in St. Joe

A downtown store in St. Joseph is closing, for good. Majerek's Readers World at 219 State Street, is scheduled to shut its doors December 31st. Store owner Tom Majerek says two locations in such a small distance just doesn't work.

Majerek atributes the move to a high cost of rent in St. Joseph and difference in traffic flow from season to season. Majerek says the Orchard Mall store has a consistant traffic flow and gets the same amount of business as the St. Joe location. At one time Majerek had 33-stores throughout Michigan and Indiana, but now only four and soon three after the new year.
