RTAB Pre-Approves Crop Walk

The state appointed board which oversees Benton Harbor's finances is giving pre-approval to the 35th annual Crop Walk through the City. The Receivership Transition Advisory Board voted to 'OK' the Walk only if the City votes the same way. R-TAB member and Berrien County Treasurer Bret Witkowsky questioned this approach of doing business. He thought the R-TAB was supposed to deal with City decisions reactively.

Earlier this month there was no representative on hand to present the Crop Walk to the City Commission. As a result its approval was tabled. In the future, Wiktowsky hopes the R-TAB not be forced to make a decision which doesn't have a city-wide effect.
