Not even close. Proposal 1 has gone down in flames, forcing lawmakers in Lansing to start looking at a Plan B today for road funding. Governor Snyder acknowledges the urgency.

Listen:

State Senator John Proos voted against putting Proposal 1 on the ballot during the lame duck session, and felt it was a bad deal. Proos says it would have put too much of a financial burden on Michigan’s middle class, which he says is struggling enough already. He wants lawmakers to show they can prioritize spending first.

Listen:

Governor Snyder vowed to keep trying to find a solution.

Listen:

Former state House candidate Cindy Duran was among thousands who voted against the proposal, and was pleased with its defeat.

Listen:

State Representative Al Pscholka, who defeated Duran in the Republican primary last year, is calling on lawmakers to not adjourn for the summer and take no vacation breaks until a “workable, reasonable plan” has been crafted.

Listen:

Pscholka has said recently there isn’t any magic bucket of money for lawmakers to pull $1.2 billion a year to fix the roads. Meetings are likely to be underway in short order in Lansing to come up with a new road funding plan. 76% of voters in Berrien County said no to Proposal 1, while 74% rejected it in Cass County, and 78% said “no” in Van Buren County.
