Piece Of Metal Found In Reactor Wall At Palisades Deemed Safe

A piece of metal has been found stuck inside the reactor wall at the Palisades nuclear plant. It's roughly a foot long, and plant spokeswoman Lindsay Rose tells WSJM News it's been "thoroughly analyzed" and they have determined it has no impact on the safety of the plant. Congressman Fred Upton isn't exactly sure what to think.

The metal is from a coolant pump and was discovered during the current refueling outage for Palisdaes. It likely traveled through the water pipes until becoming firmly lodged where it is, and physically separated from the nuclear fuel. Upton is keeping a close eye on the situation, however.

Palisades spokeswoman Lindsay Rose tells WSJM they have "determined there will be no impact on safe operations." She went on to say the piece is separated from the fuel and the material "does not rise to the level of being reportable to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission."
