Parks Conservancy Updates Public On Union Field Work

Overhaul Union Field and add another baseball diamond, that's what the Benton Harbor Parks Conservancy has planned for this summer. During a public meeting Tuesday Parks Conservancy Chair Jim Schueneman said contracted maintenance work begins Thursday at all city parks.

Work also includes trash pick-up and port-o-john up-keep. Schueneman also says the ball diamonds are now playable.

Though encouraged by the conservancy's work, resident Charles Henry spoke against installation of a fourth baseball diamond at Union Field.

The City Commissioner will vote June 2nd on the Conservancy's grant agreement. It hopes to secure roughly $460,000 from the state to help with park up-keep.
