No Injuries In Benton Harbor High-Rise Fire

Fire investigators are still trying to determine exactly how a 6th floor apartment fire started in Benton Harbor at River Terrace Apartments. Crews were called to the high rise on the St. Joseph River just after 10 p.m., and Public Safety Captain Dan McGinnis says they saw flames shooting out of the apartment when they arrived.

Listen:

St. Joseph Public Safety also responded with their ladder truck and several firefighters. McGinnis says the sprinkler system worked perfectly inside the apartments, which helped their job. He added it's likely all of the apartments on the north side of the 6th floor were damaged from smoke or water. The Red Cross is helping those who were unable to return to their units last night. The building was briefly evacuated, and about an hour after the fire started, residents were back inside, congregating in the first floor lobby.
