New Fish Cleaning Station And Boat Launch Coming For St Joseph

The city of St. Joseph will start work soon on revamping the public boat launch. City Manager Frank Walsh tells WSJM News they've been awarded $150,000 from the state Department of Natural Resources Fisheries program.

Listen:

No tax dollars are invovled, as the grants are funded by a settlement fund created in 1994 between the Ludington Pumped Storage Power Plant and the state of Michigan. The state sued the LPSPP over millions of fish being killed by the plant as it drew water in from Lake Michigan. Walsh says the new public boat launch will be on par with other lakeshore cities like Holland and Grand Haven when it's done.
